Glasgow Prestwick International Airport

History :

The first aircraft movements at Prestwick airport were in 1913, but it was not until 1934 that developments began and the airfield was being used by light aircraft. It was purchased with the intensions of being used as an aircraft training base in 1935 and further developments took place marking the beginning of Scottish Aviation Ltd.

Training came to a standstill with the onset of WWII and soon the airport became a base for US aircraft deliveries. After the war, plans were underway to develop the airport. From 1958 to 1964 a new control tower was erected and a new passenger terminal built. The airports most famous claim to fame came in 1960 when Elvis Presley visited the airport.
