Edinburgh Airport
History :
During the WWI, Edinburgh Airport was an aerodrome and in 1915 was converted into the RAF Turnhouse for the Royal Flying Corps in 1915. The airport remained under military control until it was handed over to the Ministry of Aviation. 1947 saw the first shuttle service between Edinburgh and London which continued until 1971 when the BAA bought the airport. It wasn't until 6 years after its purchase that Edinburgh Airport was officially opened in 1977.

Getting there :
Train - Edinburgh's main railway station (Waverley) is in the city centre and can be reached by taxi or bus. From here there are services to Glasgow and a variety of other destinations in Scotland and England. Most train services also operate from Edinburgh Haymarket station which is on the main bus route between the airport and city centre.
Bus - Airlink 100 runs express from the airport to Edinburgh city centre every 10 minutes.
Car - Road access to the airport is easy from the two-level junction on the A8 midway between the Gogar and Newbridge roundabouts. If approaching from the Edinburgh side join the A8 from the city bypass and proceed towards Glasgow. From the North and West you should join the A8 at the Newbridge roundabout and proceed towards Edinburgh. Follow signs for airport.
