During the war the Air Ministry took control of the site but was reopened for civil flights in 1946. 1954 saw additional services to Dublin, Belfast, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Jersey. An expansion of the main runway in 1966 led to an increased number of jets using the airport making international flights available.
